Zee....anybody here can listen to what ever they like if it makes them happy....

Absolutely!
Didn't mean to imply anything.
Of course, I might have something to say to the fellow with the gargantuan speakers shaking the windows in all the houses.  ;D

Nice video and it is amazing to hear an engine rev up that much and not self destruct...especially an engine of that age. Assuming the video is in real time, couldn't help but notice those roads were both wet and with what looked like some snow in places too. Must have had some good tires as well and that engine.

I've been reading up on Moss and Fangio...apparently the technique was to power in and put a 4 wheel drift on...and mash the throttle...to get it around....tires were pretty narrow.

I'm with Zee.  When all you "sound lovers" reach 80 and can't hear even with hearing aids just remember
"I told you so" . :-(

Speaking of sound...

It's interesting how sound plays such a role in consumers' choices.
I've had discussions on the difference in engine sounds between the UK and the US.
The US seems to lean towards deep, throaty, power sounds in their cars.
The UK I would describe as more precision sounding.
Not always true I know...but that's been my impression every time I visit.

You all know of course that vacuum cleaners are (or were) designed to be loud and deep to imply a powerful vacuum.

For whatever reason this reminds me of chocolate (perhaps because I'm munching on some now).
The US seems to prefer a slightly more bitter chocolate while the Europeans seem to go for sweeter and creamier.
Having grown up in Europe...I miss that chocolate.

Do I teeter on political ground?

Man that one thread has me so scared I've reread this one a half dozen times. And still I worry over spelling, grammar, and thet sort of thang.  :lolb:

My wife's Mele vacuum cleaner ( VERY German) has a great sound to it!    But at the price they sell for ...it better!

Another top sound....a well played classical guitar....Williams and Bream come to mind....but there are many more.

Wow....wasn't expecting insults....is it necessary?

Wasn't meant to be insulting,  sorry if I came across that way. I was actually trying to be funny. That's my poor dry humor.

I say it sounds like a pack of Toyota corollas  s[t]uck in first gear

I did that once. Was trying to impress and zip up to the next gear. Instead I went into first.
Embarrassing.  And I wasn't a teenager at the time. Most embarrassing.

Steamer, I liked it too. But, what do I know? I like the sound of a couple of Blue Tick hounds at the base of an old hickory tree with a coon in it, Hank Williams, a fire crackling, money going in my cash drawer, and a knuckle head Harley, but, that's just me. As far as which sounds the best; why I recon that's the reason theys make chocolate an vanilly. Ain't gitt'n my feathers a ruffled over no darn sound. PHOOEY.

I came home to the UK in the summer in one of those anonymous things called a 'jet' They are cattle trucks with wings but- and it is a big but, they go a lot faster than an average Spitfire in a dive. Don't argue- I lived with two squadrons of the damned things and our own little trio. If they got to jet speeds- the wings folded.

And back to Moss- that was the gentleman who somehow was 9 months older than me but managed to dodge going off to 'war' in small letters and War in big letters for an unhappy lot of British lads. Moss is now running around-- you wont believe it- on a 50 cubic centimeter baby motor bike.

Well, I used to be a bit daft as well. Built Mini Coopers- the Issigonis variety. Tuned SU's on my wife's Mark 111 Triumph Spit and did the Le Mans- backwards and the Monte in a cone gear 850 Mini and --all that jazz.
Today, my wife( or me) sails along on a German autobahn very quietly in either an Audi or a Merc SLK230 at speeds that most of us oldies would 'baulk' at. The top limit is the little naughty thing that limits the revs at about 146 mph. My 'shopping trolley' is a bog standard 1600 Mini Cooper which will trot along with with its horse meat lasagne at 120 mph.

Apart from the noise and smoke - yesteryear could be- as the late Horace Kephart said about shooting, quite Ladylike.

I hope that I haven't woken up too many Rip VAn Winkles but I did try to overtake quietly -- but not on a 50cc fizzlefoot
