Problems accessing MEM
« on: February 25, 2013, 05:50:34 PM »
I believe some people have had / are having issues accessing MEM.

This would appear to  be related to a problem being suffered by Daily.co.uk, specificially an FTP syn attack - I think this is a coordinated attempt to "break into" peoples FTP accounts by "brute force" (trying random account names & passwords). It's rarely successful, but causes the host immense problems at the same time.

Here's the relevant announcement:

Quote
Severity: High   First Reported: 14:44:19 on 2013-02-25

What issues are currently being experienced?
We are experiencing network issues as the result of an inbound dynamic FTP "syn flood" attack

Who will this affect?
Linux Hosting customers only.

Other services such as Email VPS, eShop, Windows Hosting etc. are unaffected

What will affected customers experience?
Linux Hosting customers will currently be unable to access their websites, via a normal web browser or FTP connection as the platform is currently off-line while we isolate and resolve the network issues.

What is Daily doing to resolve the issues?
Out network engineers are currently working with the data centre engineers to filter the traffic and isolate the attack and restore service to our Linux Hosting customers.

When will the next update be?
We will update this page at 6pm

Please refer back to this page for any interim updates

We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused our Linux Hosting customers
Cheers,
Ade
