Gotcha. I've just learned something today about 'name-based virtual hosting'. So I'll be manipulating my hosts file to 'get my fix' for a couple of days.

After a few days, I'll be sure and fix the hosts file back. Not a good idea to leave the entry in there.

I saw the other thread with the instructions for PC users, what abut Mac users ??

Hi Chris,

Apologies, I know nothing about Apple Macs, the only one I ever owned was an early 1990s model...
Cheers,
Ade

I view the forum mainly from my iPad via the Tapatalk app, will I still be able to view the forum via the Tapatalk app after the transfer?

Cheers

Hi Darren,

Immediately afterwards, I don't know TBH. Probably not...

Eventually afterwards (by Tuesday), definitely. Once everyone's DNS record is updated, the forum will be exactly the same as it is now, only hopefully not crashed so often.
Cheers,
Ade

We still on for 3 Feb for the change over, or has recent developments moved it up?

Hi Chuck,

Still on for the 3rd - that is, tomorrow.... (today, if you're in Australia & reading this in 2-3 hours time...)

Yay!

 :whoohoo:

It worked! Forcing the address update through the HOSTS file worked too!

Also "yay!"...from a Mac.
Typed the following in 'Terminal' (along with my password)
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
Not sure if that's what did it (I'd tried a couple of other things) but I'm pretty sure this was the trick.

...just in case this would help anyone else...

I looked in the terminal program but got nervous before editing it so I re-opened the Safari browser to check google for more info and the site had up-dated itself.

Yeah I was nervous too. I don't like messing in unknown territory.
But I had to have my MEM.

I pretty much just use the Mac for googling...so without MEM...what would be the point?  ;D

The hosts file update worked perfectly on my little netbook. Haven't tried ot on the Vista machine yet and may just let it update itself...at least I don't have to do without my MEM fix.

Thanks Ade for what appears to be a totally smooth transition.

You did a fine job of moving the forum. From this end looks like it went without a hitch. Probably would not of even known about the move if it were not for the anouncemnt fine job indeed thanks.

I got up this A.M. like a kid a Xmas time and after having my customary bowl of Cheerios, ( :old: yeah, I know) came upstairs and sat down at the Mac. I nervously went to the bookmarks bar, scrolled down to MEM and when I clicked the mouse, Viola!!!   Houston we have lift-off!!  :cartwheel: Well done Ade, and to all others that had a hand in this move, a job well done! Here's to not having outages of any duration :zap:  or frequency  in the coming year

A completely transparent, uneventful switchover.  Can it be?  Is this possible?  I thought this sort of thing was illegal in the IT world.
