Protractor Mods
« on: January 27, 2013, 05:52:19 AM »
Hi Guys,

The engraving thread and vernier protractors sent me down a path I've been thinking about. Namely making a protractor at better than 10 accuracy.

I have at home my cheap and cheerful Chinese combination set so I started to play with it and see if it was feasible to add a vernier to it.

Took a few measurements  stuck them in my CAD program and got a scale sized vernier to sort of match the set.

Some careful scissor work and some woodworkers glue and we have a vernier at 15' divisions.

Now that I know a vernier scale can be added I will set up the RT and engrave one into my good Starret.

Hope you find it useful.

Best Regards
Bob

PS Sorry about the lousy photos but I hope you get the idea.

Looks good Bob, should prove a very useful improvement. This type of contraption could be useful on the lathe topslide protractor too.

Steve
