Optical Centre Punch
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:57:17 PM »
Mostly from the scrap bin had to buy the 12mm acetal rod but the rest is:

Piece of old inkjet printer shaft with a masonry nail in the end

Old rusty 1-1/4" shafting (Unknownium)

1" O ring

You can see in the pics some work it has done.

Very nice work and the price can be beat.

I wonder if you are aware of the ones that are commercially available. This one is called On Mark, and it is quite costly ($45.00) , but it does locate very closely. It has a plastic viewing device with a tiny centering dot, and another steel pointed punch that you substitute and then pop on the head to make your center dot.

That is a nice small optical punch

I have a commercial one but its foot print means that where is can be used is sometimes restricted.

Yes it is nice Paul, well done. I also have a commercial Dankroy one. i'm not happy with it. I think the punch and optical bit are too tight; It always moves. Perhaps I should polish the diameters down a little. Any thoughts anyone?
