Kiwi Mk2 Engine
« on: January 08, 2013, 01:03:06 PM »
My first model engine is not finished yet but today it came alive for the first time.  It is a Kiwi Mark II which I got from Hemingway about 13 months ago.

Video of the first run:

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDr3Ga_CTBA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDr3Ga_CTBA</a>

Video of the second run:

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbQ_hjSGgZ8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbQ_hjSGgZ8</a>

The runs are relatively short because the fuel is only in the the plastic pipe (no fuel tank).

I still need to do the exhaust pipe, a proper base and some sort of fuel tank.

Vince,
I'm at work, so I can't really turn the sound up :-). Can't wait to get home and crank the volume!
Congratulations on your first run. You know I've been watching this build since the beginning.

Thanks Tim and Bill

It's been a long time coming.  Now I have the impetus to finish it off and maybe start thinking of what to do next.  For sure not another casting.

Very nice Vince.
It was interesting seeing the rate of fuel consumption like that.

Thanks Pete, Dave, Don and Carl.  Much appreciated.

Well I have learned my lesson (although a bit late now).  A casting kit as a first engine is not for the faint-hearted.  Thankfully, the only thing I had to redo was the piston (to improve the compression) and I easily made that from bar stock.

Great job.  It runs quite nice, and sounds great.  I wish all my engines started and ran like that on the first try!
