I find this type of vise best for holding these very small parts:

I think I have three of them. For working on small items I find this set up which is a tool maker's vise mounted in a swivel joint extreemly useful:

I have a number of the cheap clamps available but these two get the most use.

I ordered the cheap one from Amazon, and will make my own later when the engine is done. It will have small, tight jaws, with diamond impregnated jaws. Never slip.
The one I like is the one from Kangaroo Valley.

Well, Mosey, you said you wanted quality!  Starrett still believes that their name entitles them to charge absurd amounts.  Also, consider how you will feel when you accidentally touch your $250 vise to the grinding wheel. I just changed my bandsaw blade to Starrett, which cuts like a lazer. Worth the $$ to me.

Here's something a bit less exorbitant...

I have this one and find it very useful; it grips like a maddened wolverine...

I also have this one; very useful for odd shaped stuff...

You might be able to find any of these at better prices by looking about.  Better yet, make your own.  Then it will be exactly what you want.
