What Michaelr did wasn't too difficult.

He embedded the Youtube link thus shown below in the picture.

Congrats on a job well done Robert. It's a sweet little runner and was well presented. I have followed you from the start but quietly.  :praise2:

I know Robert.   I was trying to demonstrate what the test would look like in your post as your writing it.

Robert,

I think you need to change the parenthesis: "(" and ")"
to square brackets like these: "[" and "]"

Then is should work.

You can check if it worked before you post by using the Preview button too.  I find Preview a helpful feature!

Very true.............. but............... sitting on or near the top of a steaming boiler is a quick sure, if somewhat sweaty, cure for a hangover.......................ask me, no don't ask me, how I know.

Just thinking about making my own propeller for the boat and figuring out the dia. The specification on the prototype states 3 blades, 18" x 31". I am assuming the 18" is the diameter and the 31" is the distance the blade tips move forward for each revolution. Any one out there can confirm this or otherwise? If this is correct then my prop will be 65mm dia. The scale of the model to the prototype is 1:7. It will be nice to make something with a bit of size about it and not having to work under the magnifying glass most of the time.

Hi Robert,

IIRC a propeller does not scale down directly and should be related to several things such as HP and desired speed, blade shape etc.. Yes 18 x 31 is dia followed by pitch. Just like a screw thread.

Best Regards
Bob

Edit: I just remembered I had a spreadsheet for props with some weird and wonderful formula. Maybe of use

Best Regards
Bob

Thank you very much Bob, the excel info will be useful. I am thinking the power of my motor could be measured in kitten power rather than horse power, so to start with I will make it just what looks right scale wise. It will of course be very easy to change it after sea trials should the performance be wanting.

We are experiencing some very hot weather lately so time in the shed has been a bit limited, however I have managed a start on the prop, the shape of the blades is a bit freelance/guesswork/looks OK/wont see it in the water  sort of design. I am putting a bit of aerofoil shape into the blades to give added performance .  :ROFL:There is a fair bit of hand work in shaping them
