Does anyone know what engine these are from?
« on: December 06, 2012, 05:54:38 PM »
For my sins  :o I have volunteered to do a live turning demonstration at our club rally next year and as part of this I have been looking for an engine to make as a demonstrator. My initial thoughts was to build a Crosskill oscillating engine out of bar stock but then yesterday at the clubs annual sale this turned up:

To give you an idea of scale the flywheel is 3" diameter. So does any one know what it is? Or have any suggestions as to what to make of it?

Is there any method of mounting the cylinder that you are hiding from us?

No nothing at all: no holes or pads to tap into nothing at all. The cylinder and slide are both perfectly smooth.

Edit: It is home made rather than a commercial item because the original machinist had a little mishap inside the valve chest, otherwise the workmanship is very good.
