2024 alum
« on: November 26, 2012, 04:12:35 PM »
I have a part to make that calls for 2024 alum. I've never cut any before. I was curious as to how it cuts. Is it gummy? How does it compare to 6061?
 Thanx again,
  Dave

Dave, it is similar but if anything should machine even easier than 6061.  Unless the part is critical, 6061 would suffice unless you already have the 2024 on hand or just want to try some.

Hello Bil,
The part is the connecting rods for the Hoglet Jr. I already have a piece to make them from. If they get to ugly then I will have to use 6061, don't have a lot of 2024 stock. Just the one chunk a buddy gave me.
 Thanx again,
 Dave

Dave, you should be fine with the 2024 and it is stronger than 6061. Keep us posted on the progress.
