Hi, I built Mr Senfits Thimble engine about 20 years ago and kept thinking I could go a little smaller so here she is a 1mm bore 1.5mm stroke oscillator
Guess I'm lucky been very short sighted I can work close up without the need of a magnifying glass but I did need to use my eye glass a few times.
The boiler housing was first up reckoned Id start on the larger stuff first
The base was simply step turned
And top ring turned from a bit of srap alloy bronze
Then to the mill to drill the holes for the uprights
Handy having two chucks
The base was then flipped round to machine to length
The uprights next machined and tapped10B.A
The finished frame
Next up the burner was turned from a scrap bit of 5/8 brass
Bored out first then simply pushed onto a mandrel to finish turning
Then a bse turned up and soft soldered in
Looks ok to me and no leaks
Next up the wick holder
Sorry for the crumy pics the macro on my camera is not good enough nor are my piccy taking skill but hopefully you will get the idea
Next up the boiler I normaly spin small parts but failed this time just could not stop the material cracking
Heres the failed former
and an attempt at spinning just to show all didnt go well
Oh dear nothing for it machine it from a bit of copper
A mandrel was turned running the lathe in reverse using a boring tool so the the tapers are the same and the boiler end faced up
The finished prts ready for hard soldering
Not looking so pretty now so of to the pickle and a quick clean up
The finished boiler and stand.Well thats the bigies out of the way
Next up the flywheel and main bearing just simple turning jobs
Thanks for looking in back soon
